Thrive Thursday: The Tutu Project

“The more I laugh, the better I feel.” - Linda Carey, Breast Cancer Thriver

After photographer Bob Carey’s wife Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer, Bob began taking hilarious, albeit beautiful photographs of himself in a pink tutu as a way to cope with her diagnosis and help raise awareness.

“When Linda would go in for treatment, she would take the images on her phone and the women would look at them and it would make them laugh and make the time pass,” said Bob Carey.

Their initiative, The Tutu Project™, which provides support to thrivers diagnosed with breast cancer, and their family members, quickly went viral and they released a calendar of silly images like these.

“During these past ten years, I’ve been in awe of her power, her beauty, and her spirit. Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing—no, the only thing—we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others.” - Bob Carey

Bob and Linda inspire joy, laughter and brightness not only for each other but for many other women and their beloved ones in the breast cancer patient community. It’s no wonder people started spreading the amusing pictures all over the place.
